New Year’s resolution

New years resolution has been decided: Do more of what I do and use more of what I have. Will likely include much of the following - go to roller derby more, wear my collection of 32 pairs of high heels and 68 dresses more, cook more, bake more, read more, write more, actually use the sewing machine I bought, start singing again, straighten/curl my hair more, see friends-who-I-don’t-see-enough more, and maybe even go to the gym (maybe…..). I’m starting as I mean to go on by baking raspberry and dark chocolate muffins and writing a blog post…….

DAY THREE: ROLLER DERBY PHOTO CHALLENGE (a picture of you in your boutfit)
Hmmm, I’ve struggled with this one. For two reasons:
When I’m bouting the last thing I’m thinking about is having my photo taken to record what I’m wearing, so I hardly have any of me in my boutfit!
The ones I do have are hideous. Some people look good whilst wearing hotpants, clingy t-shirts and sweating their assess off on a track. I am not one of those people.
So, this photo is the not-so-worthy winner. Although I may regret it when it comes to the ‘action’ shots later in the challenge!
This my Smash Vandals boutfit (Smash Vandals is my home team for Bristol Roller Derby). I also play for Bristol’s away team, the Harbour Harlots, which is shiny red hotpants by the lovely Frock N Rollers, royal blue t-shirt and thigh high striped socks.
(It’s me at the front of the photo by the way; purple shorts, yellow socks, look of confusion on my face…..)

My new PA System - a Yamaha Stagepass 500. It’s so light and tiny and the amp, wires and mixing desk is all in the back of the speakers. V.clever!
So, just need to start gigging again now……
Anyone know any Bristol-based jazz/swing/rockabilly bands after a lead singer?

DAY TWO: ROLLER DERBY PICTURE CHALLENGE
So, I don’t actually have a picture of my first pair of skates. But, if you look at the red and blue skate above, and then shut your eyes, I’ll try and help you imagine them……..
So, imagine those skates but with bent trucks, odd wheels, rusty bearings, scuffed toes, frayed laces, discoloured leather and a hole between the sole and the upper. THAT was my first pair of skates!
Having said that, they were only £15 from a charity shop - in fact it was £15 for three pairs of skates (and one odd size 3 boot!). It was basically a random box out the back that they wanted rid of.
I believe they’re still in our hire kit in Bristol though, if anyone wants to borrow them?!
As soon as I realised I definitely wanted to play derby though, I swiftly traded them in for my Reidell R3s….which I love!

DAY ONE: ROLLER DERBY PICTURE CHALLENGE
This is me pre-derby. Ashamed to show my face I owned a wide selection of paper bags to hide the embarrassment, and escaped my derby-less reality through the reading of mind-numbing tabloids.
As per the rules, here’s five facts about me:
I once broke my own nose by accidently punching myself in the face
I worked in the Magic Kingdom in Walt Disney World, Florida for six months
I’m perpetually indecisive and always want what I don’t have
I own 65 dresses and counting
I used to collect rocks and minerals and always wanted to be a geologist. I ended up in media and PR when I realised I sucked at science!

WHAT I WORE TODAY:
A bit fifties inspired. I picked this up at my friend’s frock swap. I got told it’s vintage but have a sneaky feeling it’s actually from Primark. It has no label so I guess I’ll never know! Still like it though - I have a soft spot for spotty patterns. Teamed it with a waist belt and my new boots from Rockit Dog.
